Hip Flexor Exercise – Static Strengthening

To give you an idea of the anatomy of the muscles which flex your hip, here is a diagram to show you:

The important hip flexor muscles are shown here. These muscles also help to stabilise the hip and pelvic area.

The hip flexors shown in the diagram above can be weak. When they are weak, the other muscles which can flex your hip, such as your rectus femoris and your tensor fascia latae will want to take over, which will lead to problems with your hips. It is therefore important to gently strengthen the iliopsoas and iliacus muscles, as shown in in this video.

This exercise should be relatively pain free. You can also do the hip flexor stretch to stretch these muscles too.
